In September, the 6th grade students were exposed to Egypt. They read about it, wrote about it, studied the history of it, and were taught about hieroglyphics through math. In science the students were studying the human body as an organism and all of the interesting "parts" that make an organism. To tie Egypt to science and social studies the teachers invited Sammy Callahan, owner and operator of Heritage Funeral Home, to visit each class and compare burial practices of the Egyptian culture to the american burial practices of today. It was interesting to learn that the Egyptians prepared their dead for the afterlife in a permanent state while today's practices are temporary. Sammy even brought a wicker casket to show to the students. The 6th grade teachers would like to thank Mr. Callahan for sharing interesting information with our students.
